Multiple Choice (Multiple)

You read a passage and select all the correct options (multiple answers; the number of correct answers is not fixed).

Format

  • 1-2 items
  • Text is no more than 275 words
  • The number of options varies

Scoring criteria

  • 1 point for each correct option selected, minus 1 for each wrong option selected, minimum 0

Answering technique

  1. 1The question won't tell you how many answers are correct; verify each option against the text rather than guessing a number
  2. 2Because wrong choices are penalized, skip options you're not sure of and only select the ones you're certain about
  3. 3Answers are usually spread across different paragraphs, so read the whole passage rather than just one section

Common pitfalls

  • Selecting uncertain options to hit a number, and losing points to the penalty
  • Matching on keywords without checking the meaning agrees
